Friday and Instructor Amanda worked together previously at Loveway, a therapeutic riding center in Elkhart.  He is a retired lesson horse that can be ridden by our independent riders.  The carousel in Shipshewana has a horse on it painted in Friday’s image.  He has 1 ½ blue eyes.

Friday

The Reins of Life horse monument took one year to design, create, and install.  The stone itself is gray granite with sandblast carvings and lettering.  There is a round jet black granite insert with a laser etching depicting Reins of Life horses and a rider.  The rider’s face has been obscured so that she is not recognizable as an individual.  Pictures of both generic horses and actual Reins of Life horses were submitted for the artist’s rendering.  He chose to use Thunder in a field of daisies as the centerpiece.  Thunder served Reins for 15 years, half of his life, and was the longest-serving equine in our history.  Pictures of Hollywood and Bando were chosen by the artist to represent our entire herd.  Design ideas were offered by the Reins of Life staff.
